Introduction: Meeting Meli

Hi guys!

My name is Melissa, also known as Meli by most of my loved ones. This nickname has been around since I was a little girl and it just happened to stick with me as I grew up, so I’ve learned to love it! I’m also occasionally known as Mel, so any of these work!

I am 25 years old and was born and raised in Southern California. Despite my burning desire to travel and see the world, my heart will always lie here in Cali. In 2018 I graduated from CSUDH with my Bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a minor in Communications. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in English Literature meanwhile writing my final thesis project. After telling people that I’m an English student, most of them ask me if I like to read — my answer to this is always no. I know what you’re thinking. How the hell am I an English major if I don’t like to read? Simple, I love to write.

I don’t like to read, but I love the feeling I get when I come across a text that ignites a fire in me. Something that makes me feel inspired to write. Something that provides me with knowledge and gives me a different perspective on life, love, etc. My reading interest is subjective and very limited, but when I find a special piece.... MAN. My heart burns with passion. I’ve always had a profound love for writing, even as a little girl. It took me a long time to realize this was something I truly wanted to pursue due to indecisiveness about choosing a career path, but I finally decided to chase my dreams.

To my fellow lit nerds, I thought I’d share some of my personal favorites with you. I’ve always been more intrigued by British literature than American literature. Some of my favs are the Romantics such as William Wordsworth, William Blake, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and John Keats. I also enjoy the work of others such as William Shakespeare, Wilfred Owen, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Edmund Spenser, Mary Wollstonecraft, Mary Shelley, Emily Bronte, and Lady Mary Wroth. Though I prefer English literature, some of my favorite American writers include Ernest Hemingway, Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, T.S. Eliot, Edgar Allan Poe, and Kate Chopin. My favorite modern day writers you may ask? I’d have to say r.h. Sin, Samantha King Holmes, Malanda Jean Claude, and R.M. Drake.

Okay, enough about literature. What do I like to do in my free time? When my time isn’t consumed by work or school, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and loved ones. I have a very small group of close friends, but man are they the absolute best. I’ve truly been blessed with the greatest people and support system. I love going to baseball games (yes, I am a Dodgers fan), museums, exploring new places and restaurants, etc. I have lived in L.A. County my whole life and I still have yet to see so many things just in my area alone. But hey, that’s the beauty of life!

If I had to sum up some of my greatest loves in life they would be: family/friends, writing, music, travel, roses (particularly white ones), sunsets, photography, candles, coffee, and home decor. I have an extremely straightforward personality and I like to tell things how they are rather than sugar coating things or beating around the bush, so this page will be filled with truths about the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m a kind soul, but I’m also fiercely honest. I am unapologetically me.

Find Your Fire will contain content that personally pertains to me, and other content that has absolutely no relevance to my life that I simply wanted to speak on or call attention to. This is a place to be honest and open about life, love, challenges and more; and if I can share something that resonates with you in any way, then I will have done my job as a writer to let you know that these feelings/issues/struggles/joys/passions/etc. are universal.

As my site continues to grow you’ll get to know more about me, and I hope that I can get to know more of you as well! Stay tuned!

With ceaseless love,

Meli
